The only minor flaw in the observations below is that Israel is presumed to be an outpost of the American empire when in reality Israel has become the driving force of that empire, calling the shots for the nominal capitol of the empire, Washington D. C. 

In short, tail wags dog. That is why U.S. foreign policy appears inexplicable and self-destructive. It only makes sense and becomes decipherable under a tail-wags-dog scenario. But that scenario is too fantastic for the unimaginative or the average uninformed person to accept.
