Professor Mearsheimer has performed another public service by explaining what has really been going on in Iran over the past several weeks. Naturally, most of us do not have the time nor expertise to figure it out. So we need someone like Mearsheimer. 

The big question for me is, why is this happening at all? Why is Washington involving itself in the internal affairs of far-away Iran? Why is the CIA covertly operating inside Iran to overthrow the government? Why is Trump threatening to bomb Iran again? Who authorized this? Do we need it? Where is Congress?

The right of Washington to inject itself anywhere in the world seems now to be taken for granted. For the Middle East, the reason once again without question is Israel. The only thing Iran has done wrong is telling the unvarnished truth about Israel and Zionism. That’s it. Unlike Israel, Iran has no atomic weaponry.

Thanks to Israel’s all-powerful, sacrosanct lobby in the U.S., the White House has been tasked to do whatever Tel Aviv wants even though the demanded action is almost always ignominious. 

Donald Trump is the perfect man for it. He’s enthusiastic. While former Presidents hesitated sometimes before jumping through hoops, Trump appears ready to do just about anything.
